Sausage Tree Products

Over the years that I have been making lotions and potions I would occasionally be asked for a cream with Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana) Extract in it. At that stage sausage tree extract was not readily available in Australia so I didn’t pursue the possibility of making such a cream.

Sausage Tree Lotion eventually came about by my own need to treat my hands which were covered by contact dermatitis. This condition was brought about by constant contact with the essential oils used in production and the cleaning up process. Although I wear gloves most of the time I was in the habit of trying a new blend or lotion on my left hand. This constant application of lotions, potions and essential oils all led to my hand becoming extremely sensitive, inflamed and itchy. I would wake at night scratching my hand and in between my fingers.

Sausage Tree Extract had become more readily available to the Australian market so I of course purchased my first bottle. It took nine months of research and trial and error to finally arrive at Sausage Tree Lotion, my hands could not be any more grateful.

Sausage Tree Extract has been proven to be an effective treatment for soothing and relieving the itchiness, dryness, flaking skin and redness caused by skin ailments such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. Sausage Tree Extract is also well known to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and has been reported to reduce sun damage to the skin as well as reducing fine lines.

There are so many raw materials out there all recommended individually as being excellent for a multitude of skin disorders. I read about all the various carrier oils, butters and herbal extracts, did a lot of note taking and then let it all sink in until one day the recipe came to me; Sausage Tree Lotion was born.

I have used some of the best oils and butters available for skin care, hemp seed oil is one of the richest & most balanced sources of Essential Fatty Acids, polyunsaturated fats & Vitamin E in the entire plant kingdom.

Tamanu Oil is one of the oils chosen to blend with the hemp seed oil. This oil is a product of the Tamanu tree (Calophyllum tacamahaca), which is native to the island of Tahiti but can also be found in other tropical areas.

Pacific islanders apply Tamanu oil to scrapes, cuts, burns, insect bites and stings, acne and acne scars, psoriasis, diabetic sores, anal fissures, sunburn, dry or scaly skin, blisters, eczema, diaper rash and herpes sores -- and even to reduce foot and body odor!

In Europe it has a 70 to 75 percent success rate in alleviating rheumatism and scabies. It’s also effective on gout and ringworm. It can be applied to mucous membrane lesions. It heals chapped skin, post-surgical wounds, skin allergies, cracked skin, bed sores, wounds, rashes, abrasions, athlete’s foot, boils, and infected nails.

These three wonders of nature, sausage tree extract, hemp seed oil and tamanu oil blended with the nourishing properties of jojoba oil and sesame oil, the well documented healing properties of calendula and the soothing exotic butters of shea, mango and kokum all combine with marshmallow root extract, 100% pure essential oils of chamomile and frankincense to give a soothing lotion suitable to use all over the body including the face and scalp and, can be used by all ages.
